This was an audition piece that was painted to present to the owner and staff of the New England Patriots. Artist Samantha Wendell was going to be commissioned to paint these portraits for a new art project that was in the planning stages. The owner was caught up in a call girl scandal and the project was dismissed. Very soon after that episode Tom Brady left the team. There is a pair of these and the only ones painted for the project.
ARTIST BIO: Born and raised in in Los Angeles, Samantha Wendell grew up amid the strong influence of the entertainment industry. Classically trained as a portrait painter in France and England. Ms. Wendell further developed her concepts through vigorous research and discipline. By incorporating her education and experiences, she has evolved to a level of perfection and uniqueness in her portraiture. When creating her original works, Ms. Wendell strives to capture the excitement and intensity of the athlete's emotions that come to life on the canvas. Ms. Wendell's work can also be viewed within the collections of Staples Center in Los Angeles, Prudential Center in Newark, Amway Center in Orlando, Levi's Stadium in Santa Clarita, U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and Lambeau Field in Green Bay. She also works with the sports announcer Roy Firestone from the Fox Sports show. less
