This Really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique - Georgian English Sterling Silver Pepper Pot. It would have been Created Between the Years of 1758 to 1759 During the Very Last Years of the Reign of King George II ( 1727 to 1760 ). It is Completely Hand Made and Rendered in the Classic Form - Design that has Never Gone Out of Style. It has an Assortment of Hallmarks that include the Initials S W with a Dot Between the 2 Letters This Being The Documented Maker Mark of Samuel Wood. Other Hallmarks include the Lion Passant Designating its Sterling Silver Content, a Stylized "C" 1758 -1759 Date of Creation Letter and a Panther Head Designating the London City Mark. The Front has a Fancy Hand Engraved 3 Letter Monogram. Condition - Bearing in mind that This Piece is Actually Over 250 Years Old and has Been Loved Much Over the Years it Does Have an Assortment of Small Dents - Imperfections - Possible Old Repairs - See Photographs. It also does have some Surface Wear as a Result of its Age - Use and Being Polished Many Time Over the Years. It has a Substantial Solid Sterling Silver Weight of 87.31 Grams - 2.807 Troy Ounces.
It Measures 5 inches Tall x 1 15/16 inches Wide - Long.
Up until the Very Early 20th Century there were No "Salt & Pepper Shakers" as we know them today. Prior to that a Traditional Set Consisted of a Pepper Pot - Shaker such as this and a Open Salt Cellar with a Small Salt Spoon that was used to Sprinkle Salt.
