Clouds can make all the difference in a photo. On this day, I headed out at 5 am, seeing the potential in the sky. But I needed a good foreground element. I had previously discovered these pillars from the old Naples pier and decided to make it my destination. I knew that good light lasts a short time, so I would have just one chance to make it work. I used an extremely wide-angle lens to capture the full breadth of the scene, and I found the resulting composition gave a compelling near-far relationship.
