A unique postmodern floor sculpture by renowned Chicago area fiber artist Shirley Engelstein. Engelstein meticulously wove nylon together into four sections, with a cylindrical base that wraps around the tall acrylic or lucite pole and three other sections of varying widths and lengths that allow the piece to flow and be draped in many different settings and orientations. Clear acrylic tube mounted to square base at bottom, which has artists label on the bottom edge. Measures approximately 71in tall x 12in wide. Excellent vintage condition, a very minor crack on the base of the round acrylic section that is noticeable only under scrutiny, light dirt accumulation towards the bottom ends of the woven areas.
Shirley B. Engelstein (1924-2021), noted Chicago Area fiber artist A graduate of the Art Institute in the 1940s, she was a member of CAVA (Chicago Alliance of Visual Artists) and WAG (Wilmette Arts Guild), and several other organizations. less
