This lovely piece of vintage chinaware is very much in the "Haeger" style but does not have the "Haeger" markings. Many sellers promote this as an original Haeger, however, I am not aware of any point in time that Haeger did not mark their products. A very popular piece in the 40s & 50s, this piece was often referred to as "Little Bo Peep, Crying Baby, or Crying Girl".
This planter looks like it was never used. It is very clean and in very good condition with no cracks, or crazing, however, there are several small flaws in the glaze: on her elbow, her bow, and in the back on the edge of the pot. Century1940-50 she has a lovely green glaze and a generous open pot in the back. This is a wonderful piece of mid-century ceramics. These planters, although as popular as the Lady Head planters in the 40s-60s, are much harder to find on the secondary market. It was popular in the 50s to send a new mother a small plant in this type of vase or pot. It would be a wonderful gift for a new mother or to use in the nursery for cotton balls and Q-tips. 8" x 5" x 5"
