Unique small hand-made terracotta bowl, incised with a decorative all seeing eye pattern, by California potter Bruce Carlton Anderson (American, 1915-1986). This earthy piece is in the style of Marguerite Wildenhain of the Pond Farm, where Anderson was a student.
The underside is incised with Anderson's mark and POGONIP A 31.
Measures 1.75" H x 6" D.
Bruce Anderson is known for his mid-century functional, production pottery. He studied at Pond Farm where he was an early student of Marguerite Wildenhain. Anderson founded Pogonip Pottery near the old Pogonip Polo Club in Santa Cruz, California and held a one-man show of his handmade stoneware at the Santa Cruz Library in 1941. He is known as one of the area's first significant potters.
Anderson exhibited in the Syracuse Ceramic Nationals in 1948, 1949, 1950 and 1962. He was affiliated with the Association of San Francisco Potters (now the Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California). In 2006, his work was exhibited at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History as part of “Time and Place / Then and Now” an exhibition of Santa Cruz potters.
