The Doriana Usai 24 karat gold wall plate, large size, is handmade and painted with pure gold drops from Sardinia, Italy. This spectacular plate can be hung or used as a decorative table setting and is signed by the artisan. Doriana Usai guarantees that collectible ceramics and majolicas are made in her laboratory in Sardinia, Italy and inspired by the shapes and decorations of the Asseminese and island Ceramics Tradition and that “Non-toxic and environmentally friendly” raw materials are used. Each artifact is rigorously fashioned on a lathe and painted with the help of the skilled hands of the artisan. The small imperfections such as the difference in the glaze in the thickness, the differences in color, shape, diameter or small bubbles that form inside, do not constitute a defect but testify that it is actually an artisanal product.
ARTISAN STORY:
Artisan Ceramiche Artistiche Doriana Usai ~ The Ceramics Company is a 5th generation company, which boasts a long family tradition, dating back to the 1840' and one of the most famed artisans in Sardinia. The artistic ceramics of Doriana Usai are the result of a long tradition of craftsmanship of the Usai family. Her creations of home decor and dinnerware are adorned with pure gold in the third firing. In the workshop, collectible majolica works are carried out, inspired in the shapes and colors, by the Asseminese and island tradition and each piece is rigorously shaped on the lathe and painted by hand. Continuous innovations and studies on the product such as relief techniques, application of precious metals, union of ceramic materials and glass fusions can boast a high quality for the final result of the products, which have obtained the DOCG mark. From 1997 to today, Doriana Usai has held the role of owner in the ceramic production company, before which, the company was run by her father Usai Efisio, master ceramist. There are many national and international awards for her work. The family has won nine world-wide victories as champion of the world turners held in Faenza, four victories were Doriana's victories in the women's section of the aforementioned competition.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
Italian ceramics are heirloom quality products, and can last lifetime with proper care. We have some suggestions that will preserve your majolica for years to come. Majolica is dishwasher safe, but many people choose to hand wash their pieces as a precaution. Because majolica is a porous material, some pieces are not meant to hold liquid for a long period of time. Check for warning labels before ordering a product, as the pieces that are most notorious for "sweating" are appropriately labeled. Majolica is sensitive to extreme temperatures, specifically boiling or freezing liquids. Pouring water with a rolling boil directly into a teapot, for example, may lead to breakage. To avoid this, temper the object. The industry standard is 620 degrees Celsius (1,148 degrees Fahrenheit). Quench the glass to cool it. Crazing is common in well used majolica. The tiny cracks in the glaze do not affect the functionality of your majolica. Majolica hand-crafted products should not be microwaved, as it may crack and/or break the ceramics. less
