Description: A group of putti made of bisque porcelain, Rudolstadt-Volkstedt with gilded bronze mounting, France, end of the 19th century: four … more A group of putti made of bisque porcelain, Rudolstadt-Volkstedt with gilded bronze mounting, France, end of the 19th century: four putti grouped on a round landscape base around a rectangular pedestal with a crater vase, in a moving posture and expressive facial expression playing with a billy goat, sheep, calf or boar. The central pedestal is crowned by a classicistic crater vase, decorated on the front and back with freely modelled applied flower festoons. Round base, vase base and rim with gilded bronze contour. On the bottom pseudo-sword mark (Rudolstadt-Volkstedt). The group of putti depicted here is probably the allegory of the four temperaments sanguine, phlegmatic, melancholic, cholic, which is suggested by the expressive facial expressions of the putti as well as the animals assigned to each. Pretty, expressive group of figures with finely chiselled gilt bronze mounting. Condition: good, min. signs of age and wear, min. abrasion, min. chips on the appl. flowers as well as on the staff of one putto. blossoms as well as on the staff of a putto. less
