Solid wood and very sturdy and comfortable. Painted in a creamy neutral color and then distressed to reveal a rust color underneath. Hand-distressing throughout gives a rustic Country French look. No damage to the rush seats. There is one hairline crack on one of the backs but it does not go through all the way and does not effect the stability of the chair (see the last photo). less
