Description: Hand-carved from Italian limestone, this coat of arms plaque with crown and eagle features both bas- and mid-relief motifs. Bas-relief … more Hand-carved from Italian limestone, this coat of arms plaque with crown and eagle features both bas- and mid-relief motifs. Bas-relief is a sculpture technique where raised carvings have a shallow profile, while mid-relief ones have slightly more depth. In both instances, at least half of the projecting image is attached to the background.

A 16th century style shield bordered by a thin molding has been carved in mid-relief. The escutcheon is emblazoned with a central fess, or horizontal band. An eagle with wings displayed perches on top of the bar, while the base below is bisected by a pale (vertical band) flanked by six-point stars. The coat of arms is topped by a five-point crown. A pair of bas-relief olive branches emanate from the crown and trail down along the sides of the heraldic display.
