A colorful mid-century collection of silverplate with bold, enamel-like surfaces of ruby red, sapphire blue, and emerald green/gold The set consists of a shallow square dish with rounded corners and a biomorphic teardrop or comma-shaped shallow footed bowl; both pieces introduced by Reed and Barton in 1961. The compote / tazza in Oneida Silversmiths' Bristol Blue color was developed for the launch of the company's 1961 Silver Hues line
Reed and Barton and Oneida offered their translucent, color glazed finishes in a range of popular jewel tones. Reed and Barton's technology was developed over a six year period by their craftsman in residence, John Prip (1922-2009). Both Reed and Barton forms are illustrated on pages 270 and 271 of Jewel Stern's publication, Modernism in American Silver: 20th Century Design.
Red: The free-form bowl on an oval foot is marked Reed & Barton / 64 underfoot, measuring 6.88 in. L x 3.5 in. W x 1.5 in. height.
Green/Gold: The square bowl with rounded corners is marked Reed & Barton / 1166 / CA underfoot, measuring 5.5 in. square x 0.75 in. height.
Blue: The compote or tazza is marked Oneida Silversmiths underfoot, measuring 6 in. diameter x 3 in. height.
