The lion represents strength, bravery, loyalty and power. He is the king of beasts! This Art Deco bronze figure is signed with the name of the French artist Ch. Valton (Charles Valton). Charles Velton, born January 26, 1851 in Pau in the Pyrenees, died May 21, 1928 in Chinon, was a French sculptor who grew up in Paris, where he avidly frequented the Botanical Gardens (Jardin des Plantes). He was admitted to the Beaux-Arts Arcademie in Paris and was a student of Antoine-Louis Barye and Emmanuel Frémiet (the directors of the Academy and famous sculptors). From 1868 to 1914 Valton made over 70 animal models and was appointed professor of sculpture a the Germain Pilon School in Paris. He specialized primarily in big cats and created unique works of art.
