A tour poster for a series of performances of The Wall by Pink Floyd at the Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Germany, from 13th-19th February 1981. Based on a narrative concept by Roger Waters, Pink Floyd''s seminal 1979 album ''The Wall'' had sprung from Waters'' hatred of the stadium experience and his feeling of alienation from the audience. As such, the subsequent arena tour in support of the album consisted of only 31 dates in four cities, Los Angeles, New York, London and Dortmund in Germany, from February 1980-June 1981. Known for their extensive use of stage theatrics, the live shows were Pink Floyd''s most spectacular to date, with a giant wall spanning the width of the auditorium on which animations by British illustrator Gerald Scarf were projected to bring the story of the character Pink to life. Collaborating with Waters, Scarfe also contributed the design for the album and promotional posters, later acting as designer and animator on the 1982 film version of ''The Wall.''
Having been ousted from the band by Roger Waters on completion of the album, keyboardist Richard Wright stayed on as a salaried musician and ended up being the only band member to make any money from the tour. As relations between the four bands members had famously broken down during recording of the album, their four Winnebago’s were parked in a circle with each door facing away from the centre throughout the tour. Despite the tensions, which would eventually led to one of the most bitter breakups in rock and roll, the grandiose production was noted as a milestone in the history of the rock concert and remains to this day one of the most ambitious and complex theatrical shows ever attempted.
Unfolded, not backed. Minor edge wear. Some light rippling to lower edge from exposure to moisture. Faint 3in. blunt score to reverse of paper at upper right. A few light creases and surface dings throughout. Colours excellent.
