Wide round base for stability, aka. capstan shape, which was usually meant for maritime vessels
It comes together with an yellowed paper card, which provides some history in regards of the latest ownership of the item
The machine typewritten text reads: English Pewter Inkwell 18th century / Sat on desk of Judge trough all its history. Original quill pen.--"Upper Canada" / Owner,-Mrs. Walter James Sparks
Inside, there was a little bone pointy stick, which we assume it might be the mentioned "original quill"
Circa 18th c., England, as described. It was found in Massachusetts

Measurements: Approx. 8.5" diameter at the base, 4.5" at the top, 4" tall. The little bone quill is 2.5" long
Weighs about 2 lbs. 8 oz.
Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. All original and unaltered. Possibly it had a glass or porcelain insert, which was lost through the centuries. less
