American Metal Sculptor Extraordinaire, R W Stoller's (Robert) One of a Kind, Stunning Matisse Like abstract Hand Forged Modernist Candle Holders.
The signature is hand-etched on the base and dated 1999.
Stoller, known for multi Story High Urban Metal Sculptural installation, ventured
into creating modernist, smaller pieces, using industrial raw brushed aluminum, to create a very limited collection of works, that combine the unique angular and curvaceous wavy designs associated with the Memphis Milano Group with the minimalist form and function designs made famous by the Bauhaus School of Design located in Germany during the 1920s-1930s.
As seen in these pieces, the body is widely PostModern, white the tops, which hold the candles are made of 4 simplistic, angular, , almost Gothic, simple prongs
The combination and the industrial use of raw aluminum, is quite captivating, creating a uniquely incomparable design.
Scarcity aside, Stoller's designs, are acclaimed for his modern interpretation of works created, during the infancy of the modernist art movement in Europe.
His designs adhere to the minimalist aesthetic of form and function, and his use of industrial, raw aluminum materials
Extremely rare. They have been loaned out to museums for display only
This remarkable, industrial set is made from heavy gauge raw brushed aluminum. The lines and curvatures are bold and dramatic.
Candle holders need to be professionally polished by a metallurgist or jeweler.
They will polish up to a spectacular mirror-like finish.
I hand-polished parts of both only to give the potential buyer a hint of what the untarnished, magnificent, original, finish looked like. I cannot begin to achieve the restorative results you will have after a professional, uses power equipment.
In my lifetime, I have only had the privilege of seeing a total of 5 different Stoller works, to date.
