Beautifully hand decorated pair of heavy and sizeable Japanese / Satsuma style planters that will absolutely not disappoint on arrival. When seen in person, these are amazing.
Scenes on the front and back. Regal gilt lion-handles on the sides against a contrasting background of multi coloured floral designs over black glaze with turquoise stippling.
Traditional scenes of Japanese ladies in their gardens with a backdrop of mountains in the distance.
Two borders of burnt orange with raised gold bosses add further interest..
Ornately carved heavy custom rosewood stands finish the pieces off nicely. These alone are very costly.
Decorated in the Satsuma style for the export market.
Retains "made in china" labels on undersides. Mid-20th century.
Condition is excellent. Minor expected manufacturing flaws present.
These pieces will look very nice in most areas of the home and provide contrast to other styles of decor.
