Highly acclaimed Cincinnati watercolorist Sanford … more Exuberant watercolor highlighting Brooks’ deft talent with color layering and composition with a Caribbean feel. Highly acclaimed Cincinnati watercolorist Sanford (Samp) Brooks (1915-1994), a long time resident of Cincinatti, graduated from Yale in 1939 with a degree in architecture. He began painting in the 1950s and became proficient after studying with J. Philip Olmes in Cincinnati, Lawrence Sisson in Boothbay Harbor and Edgar Whitney in Maine. He exhibited widely and his paintings are held in many important private and corporate collections. Brooks eventually taught art classes at local high schools and Wilmington College, Cincinnati Art Academy, and the men’s art club in Cincinnati. He and his wife are featured artist in a book by Edgar Whitney, “Learn Watercolor the Edgar Whitney Way”. In addition, Brooks was often asked by Whitney to demonstrate techniques to his classes.
This particular watercolor is already beautifully framed with double mats and a driftwood like frame… If you’ve paid for framing as of late you will know that that alone is quite a value. less
