American quarter sawn oak (1/4 or tiger oak) hall tree with a seat or bench. Both beautiful and very well made item. Wonderful quarter sawn (tiger) oak was used in the manufacture of this striking piece.
Great decorative elements make it special: Hand-beveled mirror is surrounded by nice carving, original hardware including beautiful hooks, umbrella drip pan and holder, cut-out design on the back with the spindles gives a pretty detail against a wall, and the top has a 3 dimensional flair.
It has the original bottom umbrella holder and drip pan, which is hard to find. The bottom pan with the wood and the metal curved umbrella holder could be removed depending on the width of your area. The last owner had removed them due to space issues. They attach and detach simply with screws. Without the side pieces the width is about 32 inches. With the items attached it is about 37 3/8 inch wide.
Well thought out design with a mirror, hooks for hanging items, a seat to put on / take off your shoes, and a storage area under the seat.
It is an extremely versatile piece of furniture. Although the original intention of this item was by the entrance of the house, have seen them used in creative ways: bedroom, large bathroom, etc.
Was professionally refinished many years ago. This is an original piece not a later reproduction. It dates from right around 1900.
Width is about 37 3/8 inches with the umbrella holder. Depth is about 15.25 inches. Height is about 80.25 inches. less
