Some nicks here and there to the wood, predominately to underside skeleton portion of wood, along the feet. ALSO there IF one looks at 3rd. to the last image underuse profile image, leg/foot on right has a small area missing some of the burl wood, normal and conducive with use considering the period, and indicative with antique pieces. less

Late 19th. Century, (C.1970's-C.1910's); Victorian into the Edwardian Period, New York City's A.P. Stevens, Furniture Maker's and Purveyors, is this custom burl wood footed ottoman, and/or footstool, if desired use. NEWLY and professionally, re-upholstered; updated in a Chenille Textile, of a silk, rayon cotton, viscose combination, in a dusty bright rose, to a quasi-burnished persimmon coloration. with double self-welted trim surround, and pleated corners. The braiding on the word portion, is all hand-carved details throughout, while the feet/legs have chrome original foot protectors/bumpers. Depending upon the light, natural, sun hiding behind clouds and/or unnatural lights, the nap of the chenille will take on a more burnished persimmon or a more prominent dust rose coloration. Throughout the images one can see the 2 variations of colors the chenille takes given the natural light. A solid and heavy ottoman, hence the longevity of, and duration to withstand the years of use, movement to and from, as well as being transplanted throughout the country by the original owner's, whereupon we came into being of this wonderful and glorious piece of furniture from a bygone period, much coveted for the singular, and unique craftsmanship given to furniture then. People held onto their furniture throughout their lives, maintained the pieces, as this surely came from a much glorified and stately home of prominence. Originally we were going to replace the original nail heads with new ones, but we could not find gimp that was close to the chenille coloration or otherwise...WHO would have known gimp is AWOL in today's design industry, from an Ex-Insider into the Interior Design Industry via a "To the Trade," Industry Showroom. Anyway live and learn and resort to self-welting pieces. Maker's markings, engraved/burnished on the underside inset to ottoman, 2nd to last image indicates, states, A.P. Stevens in burnished, cursive letters. There is also writing, burnished below it, and indiscernible, but the Furniture maker's burnishing is clear and evident, as well as a prominent, well-known, for the era, Custom Furniture maker.
**Due to the heaviness and solidity of weight of this item, beyond not wanting to crimp or have the chenille mark, and thus the nature of the piece, it must ship white glove. less
