Late 19th C mahogany Empire armchair with an elaborate foliate head hand carved on the crest rail. Foliate heads, often called Green Man, were believed to be originally a pagan symbol related to nature and tree worship. Front legs have paw feet. Very solid and sturdy, the seat was originally cane, but was replaced with wood for stability..
Velvet cushion is in very good condition, but is not original to the piece.
