Sir George Chalmers (1720 - 1791) portrait of elite man. Oil painting is in elaborate gilt wood frame with raised floral detail. As stated at back, painting was relined in 1939. Original inscription at lower left reads Geo. Chalmers, 1773. Chalmers was known for his paintings of officials, royals, and political figures.
This was handed down by a great uncle who has passed away. He was an antique dealer in Napa many many years ago. Painting measures 20" x 23", frame measures 28.5" x 32" x 3.5" less
