Vintage: C.1935-50's, French Sterling silver over copper, Sommelier, wine tastevin, wine-makers, tasting cup with a weighted detachable silver chain. These are predominantly utilized by Vintor's' in steadfastly checking out the fermentation process, of the wine, the viscosity or clarity of the coloring, in early days and under candlelight. The linear grooves within, allows the Vintor's that objective, also the cup as a ladle, in which to lightly assuage, throughout the process of the production of the wine, in order to tell if the wine is ready for the public consumption and ready for marketing the sale, i..e full, bodied and ready for output of certain brands, the yearly distribution of the wine made and cultivated throughout the regions. The looped handle allows the Vintor, an added feature to which to hold the cup and also to utilize a silver chain link necklace in which is hung around the neck of Vintor's. As one can see from close up images of markings, the Minerva, denotes the quality and content of the Sterling Silver and Maker's markings inset to Lozenge (diamond), which is next to the French Minerva Symbol denotes a .950 of Fine Silver as well as the Provence Country, vs also the Crab underneath the flat, slightly curved portion of handle., finger rest, as well as on the underside looped portion of handle...in last image if one enlarges the image, one can see both crab engravings. The period denotes the manufacture, of such Sommelier wine tastevin, are after 1934, when the order of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevins was restored and under its current name.. The have become novelty, and just have for some wine enthusiasts, Sommeliers within North America and abroad, but predominantly featured in wine countries such as France and Italy, and passed on from generation to generation within family of Vintor's.
