Age unknown, but see Irish Bog Oak items listed.
Piece is in excellent condition
- Width 1.5 inch x Height 2 inch;
- This is an oblong shape, with a flat bottom and open top which holds a 1 inch thimble;
- Original thimble; lip shines like silver, but thimble appears to be a hard white metal;
- Heavily carved relief of brick-shapes around the shoulder, and 10 cross carved delta shapes around the sides.
Bog Oak has a nice dark and rich color. In Ireland, Bog-wood is considered quite special, can be over 6000 years old, and not only is beautiful, but a piece of the earth's history.
