Anyone who makes furniture knows that the most complex challenge is the junction points: to fit two or more elements and do it in a harmonious way, without tears or forcing, is a real art. What happens, then, if the parts to be joined are of different materials for consistency, tactile effect and conformation of the internal structure? The effort becomes greater, but the result will repay every effort. Bacio is the encounter between very different raw materials: the fibrous bamboo, soft in colour, but strong in substance; the pitch stone typical of the surroundings of Ragusa, which says a lot about the character of the earth to which it belongs; and, finally, the black sheet, cold on contact, yet so solid, a real prop that supports. On this table are also intertwined memories of different geographies: Sicily, in fact, is a land of cultural exchange and its wealth is born precisely from the conjunction of many stories that have been.
Turi Aquino was born in 1948 in Grammichele and attended the Regional School of Art where he graduated as an art teacher in the Wood section. He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania and at the same time he was hired as an interior designer in a well-known shop in the city. Later he will be the designer of furniture and upholstery in an important artisan company. After completing his studies, in 1975 he returned to his hometown and continued to work as an interior and graphic designer. After several awards in the field of ceramics, Aquino, an eclectic artist, experiments and works only on the majolica epidermis and begins to control glass at high temperatures. In 1988 he received the assignment for the teaching of Pictorial Disciplines at the Regional Institute of Art of Grammichele and from 1992 he taught Visual Education at the Liceo Artistico of Caltagirone.
