In Sicilian dialect, the 'forfice' ladders are used in the harvesting of olives. This is the direct inspiration for the Umbra coat rack, which breaks down the shape of the ladder into two parts, playing on the points of view: on the one hand there is the profile side and on the other, hidden by a projection that looks like a shadow left on the ground, is the front elevation with the pegs. Even the iron elements, which give stability to the piece, seem to recall those shadows that stretch in the sun as the hours pass in the fields while collecting precious fruits. And as it happens during the rural work, a staircase with time welcomes shirts removed for the heat, or baskets and bottles of water, perhaps leaning a little in the balance. So also Umbra is generous and hosts clothes, jackets, scarves, glasses and what happens to leave those who pass by.
Turi Aquino was born in 1948 in Grammichele and attended the Regional School of Art where he graduated as an art teacher in the Wood section. He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania and at the same time he was hired as an interior designer in a well-known store in the city. After finishing his studies, in 1975 he returned to his hometown and continued to work as an interior and graphic designer. After several awards in the field of ceramics Aquino, eclectic artist, experiments and works only on the epidermis of majolica and begins to control the glass at high temperatures. In 1988 he received the assignment for the teaching of Paintings at the Regional Institute of Art in Grammichele and since 1992 teaches Visual Education at the Art School of Caltagirone.
