When a child grows up and starts crawling and then walking he is ready to explore his environment. But is the space around him equally prepared? Usually not, and what used to be normal home-from-home comings and goings, becomes an obstacle course. Stairs, corridors, kitchens and bathrooms are areas of the house that can hide many pitfalls for a child and adults cannot always guard and block the passage. Not to mention the pets that sometimes have to stay at a suitable distance or the puppies that are often just like children. Mammina is a bollard that allows you to close access and limit an area of the house. Finally, however, it is a threshold that represents not only a limit, but also an opportunity to furnish. No longer a remedied gate or a piece of furniture placed sideways, as a badly managed compromise, but a real piece of furniture designed for this purpose and multifunctional at the same time. Mammina, in fact, contains an internal metal shelf that can accommodate plants, but also books and objects of various kinds. It's never been so nice to give a ban (on access).
Vincenzo Castellana is art director and designer of the Desine collection. Born in Milan in 1970, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Palermo where he collaborated on courses in scenography and architectural design. In 1998, he was selected by 'Designing Craft Europe' with the object 'Bidi-Tridi' and in 2005 he founded the 'Community of good product designOrientity' and 'Lp permanent laboratory', nominated by the ADI Design Index 2007 in the category Research and training in design. In December 2008, with Vanni Pasca, he founded the Sicilian delegation of the ADI, covering the role of president until 2015. 2012 he is professor of Strategic Design and Interior Architecture, in the degree course of Industrial Design and Visual Communication, at the design school of the academy Abadir in Catania. less
