Using this rod, the two results obtained pastelliste: Either a drawing, if used as a pencil, a paint insofar as it mimics the effect by entirely covering the paper.Pastel is therefore a rich technical. Pleasant, also, as it is to speak directly to the substrate using the stick without using an intermediary such as water, a brush, a palette. At the Renaissance is Leonardo da Vinci with other artists, develops pastel technique to enhance the designs (see the portrait of Isabella d'Este). The great French pastel artists of the eighteenth century are Quentin de la Tour and Peronneau shining in portraits. Later the technique is repeated with Delacroix, Odilon Redon, Degas, etc.Today, artists use pastels in all its possibilities. Of the most violent colors and acids to the most sweet and complex tones, drawing techniques to those of the most complete painting, all daring are allowed. It is this need that is perhaps interiority of pastel to be rediscovered today. The eighteenth century, confident, bright, made of pastel virtuoso spirit. Our question of time would tend to exploit his fleeting hand, disorder, to explore in depth the intricacies of the unconscious. And it seems to be called for a revival in our era of virtual images which perpetuates the necessary contact with the human hand in direct contact with the material. less
