Beautiful and impressive painting by the italian painter Giuseppe Raggio, both in size and atmosphere, representing a Lake in the countryside with some human and animal figures. Very Good Conditions. Giuseppe Raggio (Chiavari, 1823 – Rome, 1916) At a young age he interrupts his career as a merchant navy officer, which he undertook because it was his parents desire, to dedicate himself to art. He enrolled and began studying painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Florence, where he maintains himself by painting portraits of the Madonna, getting acquainted with and enduring the influences of the Macchiaioli painters and in particular, Giovanni Fattori. In 1848, he moved to Rome with the love of a son to study sacred art, but he remained impressed and touched by the desolation of the Roman countryside. As an autodidact and follower of Nino Costa’s artistic orientation, he dedicates himself with passion to painting from life the melancholy and abandonment of the Agro as well as the sad and miserable life of the countryside people. He painted with oil and watercolors, making use of an essential style, rapid and at times schematic with a poor range of colors, uniform and tenuous with intentionally hesitant and frayed brushstrokes that splendidly portray the atmosphere of those places. In 1870, he was appointed member of the Linguistic Academy in Genoa; in 1901, he becomes a partner at the Saint Luke Academy in Rome and of the In Arte Libertas. In 1904, he also became a member of the “group of XXV”, of which he was doyen. This object is shipped from Italy.
