Description: Etching of the serie “Vases, candelabras, gravestones, sarcophagi, tripods, lamps, and ornaments”, made and etched by Piranesi, published in the … more Etching of the serie “Vases, candelabras, gravestones, sarcophagi, tripods, lamps, and ornaments”, made and etched by Piranesi, published in the year 1778 by his son Francesco. Very fine etching, “Profile of the curial chair in marble”, with a dedication to Sir Dive Downes and signed on plates “Piranesi F.”. Very Good conditions with normal foxing and stains, and two little marks lower margin and some little holes due to the fact that it was orignally a book. Undoubtedly Piranesi was one of the most important engravers in 18th century even if he was well-known as an architect and an archaeologist: the greatest engraver in the period from Rembrandt a Goya. The generations after him have continued to imagine the Ancient Rome as the artist has portrayed his magnificent in ''Vedute''. Refenrence : L.
