A delightful depiction of a woman, comfortable in her own home, intently working embroidery on a framed canvas. She uses the natural light from the large window overlooking her home's front garden to enable the detailed work. It is summertime and life is idyllic in pre-war germany. Initialed by the artist: 'fk' on the lower left of the painting. Note on the condition of this artwork: commensurate with its age, this painting shows some cracking and blemishing and is overall, in fair vintage condition. On the unseen rear of the canvas a stain is present in the upper right quadrant which has not affected the painted side of the canvas itself. It is in its original vintage frame with nameplate affixed to the lower front as in a museum work. This is a significant work by a historic artist and has been priced very attractively for connoisseurs of this genre of work. About the artist : franz ludwig kiederich (1873 - 1950), was the son of the painter paul wilhelm kiederich (1842-1921) and grandson of the painter paul joseph kiederich. From 1890 to 1900 he studied at the kunstakademie düsseldorf. Until 1902 he was a master student of claus meyer and mimicked the style of his romanticised and anecdotal paintings which depict the lives of those 'close to the land'. Later he changed styles in favour of more realistic and less romanticised works. Abandoning the current trends of the period, kiederich undertook trips through holland, belgium, england, france, italy and switzerland. Throughout, he concentrated on painting country landscapes and portraits of people as they tended to their agricultural work. He captured these scenes with a sensitive attention to natural light as influenced by the impressionists. In february 1953, the kunstverein for the rhineland and westphalia, led by hildebrand gurlitt, honored kiederich with a memorial exhibition at the kunsthalle düsseldorf which was also dedicated to the painters ernst te peerdt, walter petersen and max stern. Kiederich's artworks have become available at european auction houses and are exhibited publicly in the museum at düsseldorf, germany.
