During the Second World War a small miracle happens in the world of design: the American decorator and designer Ernestin Virden Kannon meets the young Architect Matteo d'Agostino in Ravello. Among the two is immediately personal intended and creative magic. In 1948, they found the manufacture of "Ernestine" ceramics based in Vietri.
Design and shape are the stylistic figures of the two protagonists: Ernestin, with its watercolor technique, gives life to a series of strongly modern decorative motifs, influenced by Japanese calligraphism; Matteo, heir of a family of producers of Salerno ceramics, is creator of unusual forms and unusual interior projects. Together, they renew the Vietrese ceramic tradition and conquer foreign markets, especially the American one, becoming already in the fifties one of the flagship factories of industrial design in Italy. Years of splendor and glamor since there are real families and characters like Jacqueline Kennedy among customers.
The couple soon joins the young German ceramic engineer, Horst Simonis, thanks to which the factory becomes a real research and experimentation center on the colors and gloomy enamels. This piece has an attribution mark,
