Advertising and costume creation at the beginning of the twentieth century, for entertainment centers such as the Red Mill and ambassadors in the Montmartre district in Paris, was a great way to win a fortune.
Although this has only happened to a few, one of them was a young Norman artist named Gaston Noury.
Gaston learned the art of drawing of a master, his grandfather who was the director and the curator of the local art museum.
Among the frequent visitors of the Noury house, we find artists named: Pissaro, Renoir, Monet and Degas.
At the age of 23, he moved to Paris and settled in the shade of the Basilica of the newly erected Sacred Heart.
In the space of 12 to 15 years, the artist sees his fortune grow, but his dissatisfaction with insignificant projects pushes him to want to go beyond the costumes and art posters.
His decision to advertise and edit led him to a more serious work and he quickly found some happiness in the illustration of books. It also acquires a certain notoriety in the field of fashion design thanks to the exposure of its work in magazines and internal publications.
In October 1918, his wife was swept away by Spanish flu, deeply affected, he returned to the Harvre and settled in Saint-Address, not far from Sarah Bernhardt's house.
He devotes himself entirely to his art and practice oil painting, gouache, watercolor but also pastel. Refusing to remarry, he elevates his three children alone.
During his last years, he knows misery: failing to be able to buy canvases, he also paints on plywood.
His last productions are dead natures of different flowers, his condition of his state of health does not allow him to move. This piece has an attribution mark,
