the renouvel workshop is one of those places that seem entirely devoted to ornamentation: the walls and furniture are covered with plaster ornaments and tools essential to woodcarving - chisels, gouges, bevels and chisels of all shapes.
anne nicolle has worked there for several decades. She entered as an apprentice in 1977 and became a student of the workshop's owner, jean renouvel, when he was appointed master of art in 1994.
she won the first prize for sculpture at the salon des artistes naturistes of the paris natural history museum in 1996.
if anne nicolle already masters the know-how, the transmission allows her to really take in hand the worksites.
anne nicolle, who has been drawing since she was a child, insists on the importance of this activity in her work, seeing in the realization of sketches a determining preparatory work.
the workshop is renowned for its restorations and has numerous references, including collaboration with the garnier opera and the château de versailles.
anne nicolle also creates her own sculptures, mainly animals that she draws from nature before sculpting them in different woods, common or precious.
in the age of digital technology, anne nicolle keeps a particularity: she previously keeps the preparatory studies and photographs of her creations in files.
these documents constitute a precious archive, a showcase of her know-how, as well as the memorial support of an art practiced with passion.
