It was made in the late 1800s with an open shelf unit in the top section, that has been edged with an intricately carved floral pattern that compliments the paintings of flower vases on the section below. The full lower section is accessible inside by the two small doors that are set centrally, making this a great space for lots of storage - this style was common in Qinghai furniture.

Typically this would have been used to hold books and to show favoured ornaments. Sometimes cabinets like this are cut down to form lower sideboards but this one remains in its original proportions.
