This three-seater Chesterfield leather sofa was produced in England during the 1920s. It is one of the most recognizable pieces of furniture in the world. The sofa's frame is made of solid wood and upholstered with natural leather in various shades of brown. It is filled with bird feathers and horsehair with a loop to keep everything in the same place. Deeply embedded buttons, that are permanently embedded in the characteristic quilted sofa, and spiral springs improve comfort during use and relaxation. The sofa has three thick and comfortable loose seat cushions. This sofa is strongly associated with luxury and quality.
As it became more popular, the Chesterfield sofa found its way into the homes of many wealthy families, where the trend was for sofas upholstered in luxurious velvet or leather to match the elegant décor around them. Sofas have also become the equipment of many London gentlemen's clubs, such as White's founded in 1693 and Carlton Club founded in 1832. For centuries, a comfortable place to sit and chat for the city's most influential men. One of the most popular uses of the 19th century Chesterfield sofa was the office of Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. While developing his technique, he realized that the most effective way of extracting the patient's innermost thoughts and feelings is to make patients speak freely, without fear of overtones, so he always carried this sofa with him when traveling the world.
