An original wall cabinet from 1818 with signature! so-called large cabinets or double cabinets, from jämtland, with original paintings, initials of the owner mod and dated 1818, vaulted crown, double doors with four shelves behind, the top of which with spoon recess, light blue bottom with decoration of bouquets of flowers and ribbon rosette, lower part with two drawers, height 214 cm, 121 cm x 31 cm.
the history of these originals. in jämtland's large farmer environment, preferably in the storsjö region, this type of cabinet was made as part of the daughters' dowry. The cabinets were popularly called "storsch cabinets" because "storscha" equals a girl. According to the study of 200 cabinets described by maj nodermann in his dissertation "masters and furniture", cabinets with female owner designations, i.e. Initial combinations ending in d for daughter, are the majority. Female ownership designations are on 107 of the cabinets, and male ownership designations are on 38, with initial combinations ending in s for son. The remaining 55 cabinets bear both female and male ownership designations; these cabinets were given as wedding gifts or mark a generational change on the farm. The function of the cabinets can be described as twofold, in part items were stored in the cabinet, often the most valuable in silver, glass, pottery and smaller costume pieces, in part the cabinet was a measure of value as the doors could be left open, allowing guests to admire the glory inside. The period of greatness for these cabinets was between 1780 and 1850, when painting and carpentry in jämtland developed into something completely unique. less
