At the beginning of their careers, the eames designers took on a contract for the us military. For the manufacturer evans they designed the legsplint. This collaboration resulted in further designs made of curved wood, including the radio chassis for the company emerson, the type 588 a, manufactured by evans in 1946. The flowing shapes of the seating furniture in the designs by eames in the 1950s made of curved plywood are used in the radio housing here.
