This bench was part of a series of furniture that was commissioned by the previous owner after having seen the exhibition (it is possible that the bench like the other furniture was actually the furniture exhibited at the time)
The series of furniture including this bench differ from the normal plank construction that Van der Laan is know for, in that they have completely flat, panelled exteriors which gives them a much simpler, pared down aesthetic as well as being more functional for domestic use.
