Qal'at al Ghiran, "Fortress of the Vases" in Arabic, is the ancient name from which Caltagirone derives, a name that proves how deep-rooted and remote the ceramics tradition is here; and ceramics, a protean material of great fascination since the dawn of time, becomes a source of inspiration for one of the Not.O. projects.
The family of Caltagirone containers takes possession of this millenary craftsmanship, distancing it from the usual decoration and directing it towards the Italian artistic culture, more material, expressionist and less decorative, with a workmanship that recalls some works by Lucio Fontana or Fausto Melotti.
The Caltagirone sideboard comes to life from the aggregation of simple volumes embellished with individually hand-modeled ceramic tiles, fixed on every single opening: the front is completely decorated.
The structure in glossy black polyester lacquered wood is divided internally into compartments and drawers that allow the sideboard to be used indiscriminately in the living or sleeping area.
An important object, a unique presence, a piece of furniture that approaches the world of contemporary art while remaining anchored to one of the most rooted craft traditions of the Sicilian territory.
