Ellie has been working in the forests of the UK for the past seven years, producing work which explores the complex interrelationship between the landscape and the individual. What is "landscape"? We use the concept of landscape to achieve a sense of identity so that it becomes much more than just what we see; it becomes a way of seeing.

In Knit One Pearl One, Davies uses her own relationship to the landscape as her starting point. Becoming actively involved with the forest space, weaving a presence into its many leaves and textures, she builds a personal experience for herself and creates an authentic interaction with the space. The woollen thread marks a slow, deliberate, delicate trajectory: branches and twigs are woven together and linked to form a continuous, sinuous line of movement.

The trace of a lone figure passing through the space, like an ephemeral self-portrait. Weaving, sewing, threading, and connecting the woollen thread ties the artist tangibly and metaphorically to the forest. The visible process of making in these images adds a further layer of reflection to the forest space by allowing the viewer to see the constructed nature of the landscape.
