Abstract Composition is an original mixed media drawing in ink and watercolor on paper realized by Peter Dischleit (1940-1993) in the second half of the XX Century, in 1973. Hand-signed in pencil on the lower right margin and dated on the lower left margin. Good conditions. Included passepartout. Peter Dischleit (1940-1993) was a creative artist. Born in 1940, Peter Dischleit passed away in 1993. Artists like Pina Bausch, Athos Collura, Marcel Van Den Bempt, Robert Cargill, and Anne Dinnendahl were also born in 1940. Peter Dischleit's creative work was primarily influenced by the 1960s. Historically set in the context of the Cold War, the 1960s symbolize an extremely influential era which generated a significant number of breaks and questioned the order of all things. In Europe, The Iron Curtain and the Berlin wall would permanently mark people and beliefs, while in the U.S, events such as the Cuban missile crisis and Vietnam war would forever impact generations to come. From education to gender issues and ideologies, a re-definition of social standards in Western society followed, with revolutionary values and movements evolving in a cradle of innovation. Honesty and an void of emotions were key concepts in the highly influential movement of Minimalism, represented by artists such as Frank Stella, Donald Judd and Agnes Martin. Bored of the gestural elements of Abstract Expressionism, Minimalist artists focused on delivering artworks mainly gathering polished, clean lines and geometrical elements. The very first flourishing of Conceptualism was significantly influenced by the simplicity of Minimalism but went further in denying all pre-defined conceptions inherent to art, similarly to what Pop Artists were trying to attain, by uplifting popular culture to the status of high art.
