Still life paintings of fruit and game animals such as this, have been a long-held tradition in spanish art since the 16th century, known as the bodegón . In this work, the artist has been particularly inspired by the great master of this subject, juan sánchez cotán (1560-1627). This is a richly painted masterpiece of the genre. Guillermo martinez soliman was an argentinian artist, who travelled to europe in 1925, settling in belgium where he lived and exhibited.
