We are delighted to offer for sale set of four early 20th century William Morris for Liberty London armchairs A very good looking and well made set of four highly decorative chairs. They were sold to me as William Morris made for Liberty’s London. They are clearly made by a master craftsman, just looking at the minute carved round balls of timber around the edges of the backrest and the quality of the inlay inside the backrest. Perhaps they were simply upholstered with a Liberty fabric and not retailed by Liberty’s, either way they are a cracking set of chairs They have been extensively restored over the years, there are old repairs, new repairs, metal plates and brackets have been fitted here and there, I can see a new piece of timber under one seat pad and so on. We have cleaned waxed and polished them, the frames have been checked glued and clamped as required The upholstery is in good order, both carver chairs have cold sprung bases which has dropped a little but are still in good working order Carver dimensions: Height 85 cm Width 63 cm Depth 62 cm Standard dimensions: Height 96 cm Width 45.5 cm Depth 51 cm. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution less
