We are delighted to offer for sale this incredibly rare original early 19th century Roman Grand Tour Rosso Antico marble … Read more We are delighted to offer for sale this incredibly rare original early 19th century Roman Grand Tour Rosso Antico marble bath with Lion head detailing This bath is stunning, I have never seen one of this size before, they are usually around 40% smaller, this must weigh 30kgs / 66lbs approximately. It has the Lions head to the front, rings either side, the marble is thick and with a beautifully veined patina These Grand Tour items were purchased by the Victorian aristocrats of the day, they would bring them home from their journeys to prove they were well educated and well travelled, they would be displayed in ones study and used as conversation pieces The marble on this is very thick and as mentioned it has a glorious vein, it looks to have a crack running all the way around, I don’t think its ever broken because there are no signs of repair, it over 170 years old so we can forgive it some patina marks, most collector like to see some ware and damage, it helps to prove the age Dimensions Height 17 cm Width 40.5 cm Depth 18.5 cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
