Founded in the 1950s as a "cooperative of gürtler- and metal pusher craft hall," the company developed a "veb metal spinning hall" in the 1960s, the leading east german manufacturer of lamps made of light metal. Most lights were anonymous factory designs that were based on models from scandinavia, whose home decor had strong influence in the gdr. Since the 1970s, however, emerged strengthened designs in close collaboration with the school of industrial design, burg giebichenstein. Until the closure of operations in 2003, several hundred different models were produced in large quantities, which have been exported to many western european countries even before the reunification of germany. A high number of different spinning nuclei enabled a variety of models. Countless variations were found beyond this by providing the same components assembled additively, were rotated, or recombined. Another modification was to the copper-colored aluminum surfaces to anodize or paint color.
