She took up painting professionally after the war and in 1947 was elected to the rba. In 1959 she was a temporary keeper of its galleries in suffolk street and then, from 1961-1974, was a keeper of the south london art gallery. Dorothy king’s paintings were exhibited at the royal academy, the new english arts club and elsewhere in the u.k. And her work is represented in the metropolitan museum of modern art in new york.
