Hand painted with the latin words ‘sans mal desir’ meaning, intend no evil or without bad desire, framed in a beautiful walnut frame, this piece is in fantastic condition for its age. C1721in the thirteenth century the constables added their name to the manor of burton (meaning settlement at a fortified dwelling). Burton constable hall is a large elizabethan country house in england, with 18th- and 19th-century interiors and a fine 18th-century cabinet of curiosities. The hall, a grade i listed building, is set in a park designed by capability brown with an area of 300 acres.this piece would make a superb addition to any collection. less
