A rare poster for the first Swedish release of the 1958 Classic French slapstick comedy "Mon Oncle", written, directed, produced by and starring Jacques Tati as the eccentric hero Monsieur Hulot, struggling to fit into an increasingly modern and mechanised France. Tati's satire of Postwar consumer society was popular even in the US, winning the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Olle Olsson Hagalund's unique avant-garde artwork for the Swedish release focuses on a lively wheel of colorful toy windmills, representing the color and movement of Monsieur Hulot's old quarter, illustrated at lower right, in contrast to the Minimalist ultramodern villas at lower left. The title, formed from a curling hosepipe, is a nod to the antiseptic hose factory in which our old-fashioned hero gets a job. It appears that Hagalund's design was released in an equally rare four-color style as well as the three-color style seen here. This piece has an attribution mark,
