Louis XV Style Commode opens in front by two drawers in two rows with two on top and two below. Curved front and on both sides with gilt bronze ornamentation. This beautiful piece of furniture has on the sides and on its drawers decorated with a medallion motif, where the skeleton key goes. On its side it’s centred by a Medusa’s mask issuing ribbon-tied fruited swag handles, above a paterae and flowerhead frieze. Finally, embellished with the application gilded and chiseled bronzes with motifs of female figures and chiseled frames on the edges in all four corners. It has a veined marble top beak corbin and rests on four caliber curved legs ending in hooves.

The inlaid wood design on the drawers and some of the accent is quite striking! The inlaid wood design on both sides and on all the drawers. It has four drawers and all of the drawers use the same skeleton key which locks and unlocks. The marble piece on top is not attached for easier transportation.

A French period marquetry commode from the early 18th century with Antoine Gaudron movement, ormolu mounts, brass and tortoiseshell inlay and mythological décor such as Medusa. Born in the early years of the 18th century, during the French Régence that saw the transition of power between late King Louis XIV and the very young King Louis XV.

It does have appropriate age damage because of how old it is. For its age it’s in excellent condition. There are some spots you can see in the photo where there’s slight damage to the piece but it does not take away from the beauty of the piece. All of the brass accents seem to be in excellent condition as there is nothing broken or missing as far as brass accents. The marble top appears to be in excellent condition with no damage, cracks or chips (see Photos - More photos available upon request.)
