This artwork "Untitled" is a color lithograph by acclaimed Iranian artist Mahmoud Farshchian, born 1930. It is hand signed and numbered 217/250 in pencil by the artist. The image size is 29 x 19.75 inches, framed is 43.5 x 31.85 inches. Custom framed in a wooden black frame, with fabric matting. it is in excellent condition, the frame has minor restorations, barely visible.
A watercolor by this artist, size 31.5 x 21.25 inches, was sold at auction on July 5th 2019 for a record price of $476,000.00
About the artist:
Mahmoud Farshchian was born on January 24, 1930, in the great city of Esfahan. Esfahan is known as “Half of the world” He first started painting since he was 5 years old. He used to paint on everything that he could get his hands on! Farshchian’s father was a respectful Persian Carpet merchant In Esfahan. His father encouraged him and his artworks. Since the early age he was interested in the patterns of the Persian Carpets. He was a student of many famous Iranian Artists, such as Haj Mirza Aqa Emami and Isa Bahadori. He graduated in Esfahan’s Academy of Fine Arts. Then he left to go to Europe where he studied the works of the great Western masters of painting and art. Once back from Europe, Mahmoud worked in the National Institute of the Fine Arts (later the Ministry of Culture and Art). During this period, he held various positions such as the. Administrator of the Department of National Arts, Director of the Department of National arts, Art Professor of the University of Tehran’s School of Fine Arts. In Farshchian’s artwork we can see Persian classical painting, the Persian classical poetry, the Persian symbiotic relationships, and the modern art. All together we can say it is a combination of Persian traditional and modern art. When he wants to start an artwork, he reads Persian Classical Poetry and listens to Persian Classical and Traditional Music. His art helps us to search deep in our souls. His stories are drawn on canvas with his unique style of Persian Sur-Naturalism. One of the Farshchian’s artwork took him two months to complete in US and was primarily unveiled on August, 2007 at the Farshchian Art and Cultural Complex in Esfahan. ‘Shams and Rumi’ is one of his greatest artwork which is about the relationship between The Master (Shams Tabrizi) and the student (Jalal-edin Moulana Rumi) who are both great Persian poets. While he was working in the National Institute of the Fine Arts he created some masterpieces. When he moved to the United States of America, and some of his great masterpieces were created in there. Master Farshchian had also received an honorary doctorate in the Fine Arts. Master Farshchian is well recognized by the Iranian High Council of the Culture and Art.
In Iran, a museum is devoted to his work: “The Museum of Master Mahmoud Farshchian”. This museum has been set up by the Cultural Heritage Foundation in the Sa’dabad Cultural Complex in Tehran, Iran. The museum was inaugurated in 2001.
His artworks have been displayed in numerous museums worldwide including, the Metropolitan Museum, Harvard University, The British Library, Bibliothque National de France, Freer Gallery of Art and many more. distinguished art academies, schools, museums, establishments and galleries. Mahmoud Farshchian is currently working in the East Coast of the United Sates.
